Final Fight Card Revealed
April 30, 2011
Kings Hall Complex
Irish MMA fans are bracing themselves for another cracking fight card from John Ferguson and his team at
Cage Contender. Cage Contender is coming back to its home town and the world famous Kings Hall
Complex in Belfast on 30th April with a fight card that again proves why Cage Contender is the Irish MMA
fans favorite brand. In 2010 Cage Contender sold over double the amount of tickets to its nearest rival, getting
between 2500 and 3500 fans at every event.
The final fight card was revealed along with the news that Cage Contender have agreed a further 12 Month
deal with sports broadcaster Setanta Sports. This means that the Cage Contender brand will be broadcast
in over 72 countries worldwide for the next year.
Mark Connor Damian Rooney
Among the most notable fights on the card Dinky Ninjas fighter “Thee” Mark Connor (MMA 5-6-1 / CC 0)
taking to the octagon with CC favorite Damian “The Rage” Rooney (MMA 7-2-1 / CC 1-1-1). Both of these
fighters drew with skillful Mancunian Declan “Kid Dynamite” Williams in 2010. The slick Rooney from Newry
in Northern Ireland is right at the top of the domestic Irish Bantamweight tree at the minute and will not want
to disappoint his droves of following fans who will no doubt be trying to raise the roof when their man steps
into the arena. But no doubt Connor will have other ideas, he is no stranger to big fights with wins on his
record over Paul ”Death Wish” Hartley and Mark Platts.
And then there is the smell of revenge in the air…….. In a 190Lbs catchweight bout that will see current
Cage Contender Middleweight Champion Chris “The Killing” Fields (MMA 6-3-0 / CC 2-0-0) wanting to take
revenge on red hot scouser Lee Chadwick (MMA 10-7-1 / CC 0). Chadwick knocked out Fields’ training
partner Cathal Pendred in little over 20 seconds when they met last year. The popular fighter from Liverpool’s
Team Kaobon is walking into the lion’s den for this fight; it is not uncommon for Fields to sell 200 tickets for
his fights and the Irish crowds at Cage Contender are well known for their massive vocal support.
The stacked card will also see the vacant Cage Contender Light Heavy Weight Title up for grabs when
unbeaten Marius “Pitbull” Lapenas will be fighting the also unbeaten Vilmar “The Animal” Erenberg. Both
these guys are originally from Eastern Bloc countries but have now settled in Ireland. While they have limited
MMA records they both have over 20 Combat Sambo fights each. Lapenas comes from the same stable as
leg lock freak fighter Artemij Sitenkov while Erenberg is fighting from the popular Husaria Fight team in
The undercard is also packed with a mix of well-known Irish fighters like Taz McCombe, Dec “The Bandit”
Larkin and Pat “The Fury” McAllister along with the up and coming stars of the emerald isle. Guys like
Davern, Cocoran, Dos Santos, and Moore will be wanting to shine on the biggest stage in Irish MMA.
