Edner Cherry Returns To ESPN2 On June 13

EdnerCherry Bomb Cherry (21-5-2, 10 KOs) makes his return to the ring on Wednesday, June 13, 2007

at the A La Carte Event Pavilion in Tampa, FL when he defends his NABA and USNBC Lightweight Titles

against Wes Ferguson (16-1-1, 4 KOs). ESPN2’s “Wednesday Night Fights” will televise the highly

anticipated battle between two of the world’s best Lightweight prospects.

Cherry, from Wauchula, Florida, is coming off a ten round unanimous decision loss on HBO’s “Boxing After

Dark” to Paulie Malignaggi. The bout with Malignaggi, which took place in February of this year in New

York City, was contracted at the Junior Welterweight limit (as opposed to Cherry’s natural 135 lbs. class).

Edner will now return to the Lightweight division to once again continue his pursuit of a world title.

Ferguson, who currently resides in Las Vegas, Nevada, is co-managed by the world’s best pound for pound

fighter, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and trained by Roger Mayweather. Ferguson has spent the last four years

establishing himself as the best Lightweight prospect on the West Coast. He has wins over highly regarded

boxers including Josesito Lopez and Arturo Quintero. This June 13th Cherry bout represents Ferguson’s

stiffest test to date, and Wes will look to capitalize with a statement win.

The televised co-main event will feature Jr. Welterweight prospect Ramon Montano (11-3-2), from Las

Vegas, Nevada, taking on Lowell Brownfield (9-3, 3 KOs), who is currently training out of Burbank,

California. Montano is coming off the biggest win of his career when he took a split decision victory over

highly regarded prospect Americo Santos in February of this year, while Brownfield has won two out of his

last three bouts. Both fighters look to make their mark in front of a national television audience.

The undercard will feature some of the bay area’s top boxing talent. Tampa’s Moses Droz will collide with

St. Petersburg’s Jason Barnett in a very intriguing Heavyweight matchup. Jr. Welterweight Derrick

Samuels, widely regarded as one of the top prospects in the Tampa area, will be featured in a six round

bout. Also on the card are local favorites Charlie Serrano, Ali Tareh, and female sensation Jenna Shiver.

Reserved tickets are priced at $80, $75, $70, $45, and $35, while General Admission tickets are available for

$25.
