Tito Ortiz Chosen as New Team USA Caption

July 9, 2005

Robert Guertin Arena

 Gatineau, Quebec

OTTAWA, ONTARIO – Due to a prior contractual obligation, Tito Ortiz will replace Chuck Liddell as the

new captain for Team USA. Ortiz is the breakout star who kept the fledgling UFC alive at the end of the SEG

era, and now he brings his experience to a team of fighters yearning for that same type of exposure. On the

TSN telecast, Ortiz will talk about the future of the former UFC light heavyweight champion. “We are very

excited about having Tito involved with this event,” says Ontario native and Freedom Fight producer Pete

Rodley. “Hull and Ottawa have warmly embraced this event and if this is a sign of things to come, we’ll be

here for a long time.”

FREEDOM FIGHT 2005 will feature five team bouts and four undercard bouts. “We’ve had some injuries and

have had to replace some fighters, but that’s the nature of the game,” says producer Clyde Gentry III. Team

Canada member John Alessio suffered an inch-long cut above his eye, forcing him to withdraw from the

event. Bobby Southworth was forced to cancel due to a shoulder injury.

"The Experiment" Krysztof Soszynski vs. Matt “Suave” Horwich will now become the fifth team fight.

Horwich is a world-class wrestler from Team Quest with a 9-4-1 record, with three of those losses coming by

way of decision. Horwich holds submission wins over Canadian Jason MacDonald, Frenchman Antony

Rea and Finland veteran Mikko Rupponen.

Another late replacement comes in the form of JON FITCH, who takes Mike Guymon’s place against JEFF

JOSLIN. Fitch is former wrestling team captain for Purdue University who recently won an eight man tourney

in Mexico and holds a TKO victory over Shonie Carter.

Richard “The Monkey” Nancoo (6-2-1) vs. Jeremy “Lightning” Bolt (13-7) will be one new fight added to

the card in the 130-pound division. Toronto-born Nancoo started his MMA career back in 1998 and after a

two-year layoff, the BJJ black belt returns to action. Indiana native Bolt is an aggressive veteran in his own

right, with only two bouts of his 20+ fight career going the distance.
