Severn And Worsham To Lock Horns Once Again At "Legends Collide 2"
February 20, 2011
San Jacinto, California
Fight legend Cal Worsham is coming out of retirement to face fellow pioneer Dan "The Beast" Severn at
"Legends Collide 2" on February 20th. These two faced off at "Legends Collide" back in 2005, where "The
Beast" stopped Worsham with a 3rd round TKO via doctor stoppage.
I spoke with Cal in a recent interview. Check out part I:
Phil Lanides: You haven’t competed since 2007. How are you feeling physically at this point?
Cal Worsham: I feel good because a lot of things got taken care of, and injuries have healed up. I had a few
surgeries during the layoff, so in that respect, it was good. It was much needed. In terms of my comeback,
Dan Severn wouldn’t be my first fight if I had my choice. I would have preferred a warm-up fight, but that’s not
the hand I was dealt. So I’m just taking what’s laid before me and trying to run with it.
PL: You’re known for your heavy hands. Do you f eel that they are your greatest strength at this point in your
CW: Absolutely, no question.
PL: At “Legends Collide 2,” you will have an opportunity to avenge a loss, and it will be against fellow legend
Dan “The Beast” Severn, who you faced at the first “Legends Collide” card. What does this mean to you?
CW: It’s everything. First off, Dan’s somebody that I’ve looked up to in this sport. I don’t even feel I should
even be mentioned in the same breath with him. As far as accomplishments and what he’s done…it’s
humbling just to be mentioned with him. It’s just an honor that it’s happening again. And yeah, if I can turn
that loss into a W, or even if it doesn’t turn out my way, just having a second go-around with a legend like
him, just to compete against him is an honor. I thank Tedd Williams for putting it together, and of course I
thank Dan for taking the fight and giving somebody like me a second crack.
Head over to the GC website to see the full interview, and check back in a few days for part II of this
