Two HBO Championship Boxing Result Paul Williams vs. Kermit Cintron Former Welterweight Champions Clash at Jr. Middleweight
May 8, 2010 Home Depot Center Carson, California
Jr. Middleweight Bout (12 Rds) Paul Williams (38-1, 27 KOs) wins a 4th rd technical split decision over Kermit Cintron (32-2-1, 28 KOs) - Judges scored the bout 40-36, 36-40, 39-37 for Williams.
About 35 seconds into the fourth round, Williams landed a left as Cintron countered with a short right - Williams was moving forward and avoided the short right but his head ended up underneath of Cintron's right arm (with his arm's around Cintron's body). As William's continued forward, he let go and his legs got tangled with Cintron's legs and he went down near the ropes - Cintron kind of got spun around and ended up going through the ropes, onto the ringside table, then the floor. Cintron was on the floor for some time and got medical attention - and was eventually taken out in a stretcher to his dismay. The official announcement was that the bout was stopped because the fighter could not continue. And according to California rules, after three rounds are completed, it would go to a technical decision. And because the bell rang to start the fourth round, the fourth round was also counted.
