To Present Top Rank's
"Million Dollar Lady"
Christy Martin vs. Lucia
Rijker
Las Vegas-- Superstars Christy Martin and Lucia Rijker will
collide in Top Rank's 'Million Dollar Lady'
showdown with the winner to
collect $1,000,000 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas on
Saturday, July 30.
It's a riveting, sensational
matchup announced by Bob Arum of Top Rank. Martin vs. Rijker will be on
Showtime Pay Per View.
Martin and Rijker will each be
guaranteed $250,000 with the winner to receive an additional $750,000.
This
will be the most monies earned
by any female athlete in any sport, Arum said.
Martin has a record of 45-3-2
with 31 knockouts. Rijker is 17-0 with 14 knockouts. The superfight is
scheduled for 12 rounds.
Martin, born and raised in
Bluefield, West Virginia, says she will win and collect the bonus monies.
"Lucia Rijker is a bully, like
the ones you see on a schoolyard playground," said Christy. "Like all
bullies,
once you stand up and fight
they always back down. I will show the world and make it all happen on
July
30."
Both are star performers who
strike with power.
Rijker, born in Amsterdam and
now living and training in Los Angeles, has taken on and defeated top
competition for years. She is
an extremely hard puncher who attacks early in her bouts. Rijker also
appeared, as boxer Billie Blue
Bear, in Clint Eastwood's award-winning movie Million Dollar Baby.
The undercard will include the
sensational all-action flyweight, Jorge Arce, who will box in a
12-round
championship bout; WBC light
flyweight champion Eric Ortiz of Mexico will defend against
Brian Viloria of
Honolulu; undefeated
middleweight Kelly 'Ghost' Pavilik will be in a
10-round bout.
Arce, who is coming off a
riveting performance in an eliminator win over Hussein Hussein, is
scheduled to
take on Angel Priolo of
Barranquilla, Colombia in a 12-round WBC interim flyweight title bout.
Arce lives
and trains in Los Mochis,
Mexico.
Also appearing (on the
international broadcast) will be USA Olympian Vanes Martirosyan of
Glendale, Calif
and hard puncher super
lightweight Mike Alvarado of Denver.
