WBA Super Welterweight Title Bout (12 Rds)
Miguel Cotto (36-2, 29 KOs) wins by TKO at :53 of the 12th rd over Ricardo Mayorga (29-8-1-1, 23 KOs)
In the 12th round, both fighters threw left hooks at the same time but it was Cotto's that connected - sending
Mayorga down to a knee while holding out his left arm. Mayorga was staring at his left hand as he was going
down to a knee.....he looked like he was in pain. Mayorga got up at the count of six but was holding his left
hand. As the ref resumed the fight, Mayorga started to adjust his left glove causing the ref to give him a few
seconds. The fight resumed and after a brief exchange, Cotto tagged Mayorga with a stiff left jab that sent
him back into a corner - Mayorga rested his arms above the top ropes, signaling to the ref he did not want to
continue and the ref stepped in and stopped the bout. Mayorga looked to be in distress from his left hand
(thumb) as they attended to him in his corner after the bout. Cotto retains title.
