Pankration Rules

 

Legal Weapons - Punches, hammer fists, palm heels and forearms. Kicks with the instep, bottom of foot,

blade of foot, ball of foot, toes, shin and knee are legal. Strikes with the Head, fingers and tip of elbow

are prohibited. Opponent may not strike a fallen opponent.

 

Legal Targets - Chest, stomach, ribs, thighs, and calf are legal. Strikes to the face, head, joints, back,

spine, groin or other vital points are prohibited.

 

Legal Submission Targets - Wrist, elbow, shoulder, hip, straight knee, vascular neck and ankle are

permitted. Pressure points are allowed as long as they are executed with applied pressure. Neck cranks or

submissions which involve dynamic twisting or pressure against the neck joint or spine are

prohibited. Heel hooks and submissions which involve a twisting pressure against the knee joint are

prohibited.

 

Takedowns and Throws - Takedowns and throws designed or intended to cause injury are prohibited.

Unnecessary slamming or spiking to the head is prohibited. Slamming to escape a submission is

prohibited.

 

The following are strictly forbidden:

a) Evading or stalling

b) Executing any illegal strike, throw or submission.

c) Bending or twisting of fingers

d) Biting, pulling hair or pinching/ pulling of skin.

e) Speaking during bout.

f) Arguing with any official.

g) Refusing to obey the direction of any official.

h) Showing disregard for one’s or opponent’s safety.

i) Continuing the bout outside competition area.

j) Any other condition for which the referee believes a penalty should be imposed.

 

Scoring the Bout

The 10-point must system will be utilized for scoring all bouts. The winner of the round will receive 10 points,

(minus any points deductions for fouls) with the lesser score awarded to the loser of the round (minus any

points deductions for fouls). There are to be no fraction of points awarded, and in the event of an even round,

the core will be 10/10. Even rounds should rarely, if ever happen.

 

Example of scoring a bout

- 10/9 From a “close” to “moderate” margin

- 10/8 Decisive (without a knockdown)

- 10/8 One knockdown

- 10/7 Two knockdowns

- 10/6 More than (2) two knockdowns

- 10/10 Cannot pick a winner (Draw)

 

Point deduction scoring

When the referee declares a foul and deducts point(s), the judge must write the amount of the deduction on

his scorecard at that moment. Should the referee take additional points the judge must draw a line through

his original deduction and put the new amount of point deductions. He must initial the corrected amount.

Only the referee can declare point deductions for fouls.

 

Duration of Bout

Each bout will consist of 3 two minute round with one minute rest between rounds.

 

Competitors Safety Equipment and Hygiene

Competitors may compete in traditional martial arts/wrestling attire or T-shirt and shorts. Competitors are

encouraged to wear a rash guard and grappling style shorts. Wrestling/Martial Arts shoes are not allowed.

All competitors will be examined for contagious skin conditions, trimmed nails and open wounds prior to

competition. All competitors must compete with a mouthpiece. Male competitors must wear a cup. Other

protective gear such as knee pads, elbow pads are optional. Shin and instep pads are required equipment.

Promoter will supply competition gloves (6oz. shotto training gloves). No personal gloves permitted.

 

Divisions

Divisions will be separated by age and weight. Competitors 14 years and older will be further separated by

gender. The tournament director reserves the right to modify divisions to ensure competition. All Competitors

must be amateur.

- 8 to 10 years

- 11 to 13 years

- 14 to 17 years ( Male)

- 13 to 17 years (Female)

- 18 years and older (Male)

- 18 years and older (Female)

 

Weight Divisions Youth

- Under 60 lbs.

- 60 to 74 lbs.

- 75 to 89 lbs.

- 90 to 104 lbs.

- 105 to 119 lbs.

- 120 to 134 lbs.

- 135 to 149 lbs.

- 150 to 164 lbs.

- 165 to 184 lbs.

- 185 to 204 lbs.

- 205 and over

 

Female Adult

- Under 130 lbs.

- 131 to 150 lbs.

- 151 and over

 

Male Adult

- Under 140 lbs.

- 141 to 155 lbs.

- 156 to 170 lbs.

- 171 to 185 lbs.

- 186 to 200 lbs.

- 201 to 220 lbs.

- 221 lbs. and over

 

Operation of Matches

1) Weigh in will be conducted prior to competition.

2) All competitors and coaches must attend a rules briefing prior to competition.

3) Competitors and coaches must agree on match.

4) No food or drinks beside water in staging area.

5) Only coach and corner person with competitor.

6) Any lack of sportsmanship from the competitor or his/her corner is grounds for disqualification.

7) Competitor’s corner team must sit down while competition is on. No slapping of the ring while match is

    going on.

 

Amateur Muay Thai Kickboxing

Competitor’s Required Gear:

1. All competitors must wear muay thai shorts.

2. Mouth guard (mouthpiece must stay in place when competitors opens his/her mouth).

3. Groin protector (female/male) no exceptions.

4. Shin/instep Protector.

5. Hand wraps (no tape, cloth material only).

6. Amateur USA Competition approved head gear only.

7. 16 under chest/rib protector required (WTF style).

8. Females 13< must wear female chest protector.

9. Gloves are provided by tournament promoter (no personal gloves allowed)

10. No chain, necklace or any kind of jewelry shall be worn during event.

11. Competitor must be clean and trimmed toenails.

 

Weigh-In

All contestants must be ready to weigh-in not less than three (3) hours before the scheduled event. The

weight of the fighter is considered as the contestant’s weight division for the event. The contestant is only

allowed to weigh-in on officially approved scales only once. The scaled weight is accepted when the

contestant is stripped down to his under wear and the weight is metrically measured. The scales may be

electronic. The read weight is final.

Amateur Muay Thai Kickboxing Rules

1. Knees are allowed only below the shoulder line No strikes are allowed to the groin to the groin or joints-

    Knees- of the leg.

2. Direct (Side Kick Style) kicks to the front of fighter’s legs are NOT ALLOWED.

3. In TRUE Muay Thai as with these rules, FLASH KNOCKDOWNS where the knocked down fighter rises up

    immediately after being knocked down are NOT COUNTED AS A KNOCKDOWN OR STANDING 8

    COUNTS.

4. Clinching is allowed as long as 1 fighter is ACTIVE WITHIN the clinch. If there is inactivity for a period of 3

    seconds, the referee will break the fighters.

5. Chest Pads are “MANDATORY FOR JUNIORS” and Fighters Must Supply Their Own.

6. NO HIP THROWS: Over the hip throw such as in KARATE are illegal.

7. Taking an opponent around the waist with both arms and twisting them off balance so they will fall is legal.

8. PLOWING: Fighters are allowed to catch their opponent’s leg and take 1 step forward. After 1 step, the

    fighter holding the leg must STRIKE before taking a second step or more or let go! You can not hold a leg

    and charge an opponent to the ropes. You can “dump” a person if you catch their leg and throw it back

    towards them causing them to fall backwards but must do so within 2 steps.

9. Stepping on a fallen opponent is illegal.

10. SWEEPING: Sweeps (With instep of foot) are note allowed but a fighter may “KICK” his/her opponents

     supporting leg with the top of their.

11. LIFTING: You can NOT in any way lift an opponent off the ground to throw them.

 

Duration of Bout

All junior divisions under the age of 10 years, are3 round x 1 minute and ˝ long, with 1 minute rest between

rounds.

If title bout: 3 round x 2 minute long, with 1 minute rest.

 

Junior 11 years and older will be 3 rounds x 2 minute long, with 1 minute rest between rounds.

If title bout: 3 round x 3 minutes long, with 1 minute rest.


Scoring Criteria

receive nine points or less (minus any point deductions).
